Alexandria Soccer Kick-Off (ASK) Tournament Wrap-Up

Wrap Up: ASA held its first annual Alexandria Soccer Kick-Off tournament for local travel teams on March 15 & 16, 2014. 122 local travel teams participated, U9 through U12 boys and girls and U8 boys and girls academy teams.188 games were played in the City of Alexandria on premium turf fields over the course of the weekend, which started with warmer temperatures on Saturday and ended with snow flurries on Sunday evening. The games ran both days at Ben Brenman Park, Witter Athletic Complex, Fort Ward Park, Francis C. Hammond School, Saint Stephens Saint Agnes School. All fields had volunteers running soccer meter statistics, which were later sent to team coaches after the games to track things like time of possession, touches, and pass strings.

ASA is very happy with the way things turned out and would like to thank everyone involved in the process, including volunteers, sponsors, referees, and all teams participating.

Thank you to our Tournament Sponsors, The LizLuke Realty Team and Upper Cervical Chiropractic Group, as well as Adidas (match ball sponsor), Fine Designs (tournament apparel), and Soccer Meter for providing statistic capabilities throughout the weekend.

Thank you to the following food sponsors, who provided food for our volunteers, referrees, and ASA coaches throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Fairlington Pizza
  • Fireflies Restaurant
  • Quattro Formaggi
  • Del Ray Pizzeria
  • Slaters Market
  • Rustico
  • Cafe Caturra
  • Cafe Pizzaiola

2014 Testimonials:

Just a quick thank you for providing our U10 Arlington Legend Blue team an opportunity to play three games on your excellent fields over the weekend. Mother Nature cooperated just enough (the flakes began falling after our last game on Sunday) to allow us to get all three games in. With the cold winter weather this year, we haven’t had as many opportunities to practice and play so we welcomed the chance to shake off some winter rust. Also, we appreciated the Soccer Meter statistics we received after Saturday’s game. Both the kids and parents really enjoyed looking at the stats and it was a topic of conversation on the sidelines during our Sunday games. Thank you again for including Arlington Legend Blue in your soccer kickoff this weekend!

~Dave, Manager, U10B Arlington Legend Blue

Twitter: Great weekend for U12 @AlexandriaSoc Strikers Red. Three wins but, most importantly, played a great style of #soccer. Possession first!

Twitter: Great fun at the @AlexandriaSoc tournament today. Boundless energy. I couldn't play 3 games in 1 week much less in 1 day!
